Default Training date tango!!

What's up? My training date has moved EIGHT times!!! We're talking about a training date varying over 7 months. Talk about not being able to plan anything. It just moved again yesterday and the senior guys that left the 10 are in class before me. Is this legit? Can the company legally schedule them to go before me when my training date was from a previous posting(bid)? I haven't looked at the contract yet, since this happened yesterday. Man, we need something in there to avoid the shuffle of life's plans.

I do not think they can move guys from a new posting in front of you, I will check the CBA but I do believe all training from a previous bid moves ahead of the new bid, the only catch might be that is was an excess ?

I think this little paragraph is of interest:

3. Training Due To Excess
a. Pilots involuntarily excessed from a crew status shall be
scheduled for training in reverse seniority order. Application
of this paragraph shall not trigger passover pay for the
involuntarily excessed pilots.

I think you need to call David Taylor at Contract Enforcement to get an answer to them placing guys in front of you from a subsequent Bid... Please keep us informed on what you find out. Thanks

I agree completely but training schedules are of little interest to wide body capts so don't expect any help in the next contract.

That determines the order of training for pilots on excessed equipment, not the "when"! I would definitely call the union, even junior folks have seniority rights.

Good Luck

Does anyone understand why the company prefers the long bid cycles? In my opinion, the company would gain flexibility and the pilots would have better control of when they go to training if the company had bids every month or at least closer together than they do now. From my conversations with friends at other airlines, I think that alot, if not most, other airlines have monthly or semi-monthly equipment bids.

Company is worried about multiple training cycles per pilot, hence the long training letter. A 1 or 2 year equip/seat lock would solve that problem.

It is an attitude thing - the company knows how to do it better than those other airlines
