There are those who will be captains for 5 more years.
There are those who will be F/O's or S/O's for 5 more years.
And there are those who will not be hired for 5 more years.

Guess which group all the "deciders" are in?

I would be more than happy to support our brave leaders, if it was going to cost them as much money as it was going to cost me......

'We'll fix it later' and 'you can fly an extra 5 yrs' sounds alot like the same old BS that the senior membership continues to spew. Put it off later so we can take advantage of it/you now...

I'm under the assumption that this thing is being rammed down our throats mostly to do with Congress. That being said, I don't envy anyone who wants to hang around for 5 more years digging that hole to exactly six feet so that they can nose dive in it the day after they get their smack on the a$$ on the way out the door. (For the euphamistically challenged, that means work till you die). However, I wouldn't feel right standing in the way of anyone else's greed/retirement preservation.

That being said, I don't think that we (the pilot group) should take it in the shorts for anyone. Meaning, that we MUST keep out any penalties for retiring at 60 if you so choose to. Should it be a cornerstone for the next CBA, probably.

Of course, my 1st SGT used to say in a Puerto Rican accent... "Assuming makes an a$$ out of u and me."

Why, yes 1st SGT Roque, it sure does....

Wouldn't that make an "a$$ out of u and ming?"

Spanglish, perhaps?

Anyone heard any MEC member say "Grandfathered" for those wanting to retire at 60 without penalty?

Same story for those that sucked up years of flying jobs on the civilian side making less than the guy flippin burgers at MickyDs. I'm tired of hearing the lame arguement of only having 10-14 years here so they need to stick around....it's 2% a year period...there is no magic new level of retirement out there if you hit 20 years...basically you will just collect that retirement check for a fewer number of years if you work past 60. Last time I checked the FAA isn't working on a solution to the average life span of a pilot. Take the money and run.
Purple driver: As one of the older guys -- retired AF, I am happy to work 15 years and retire (at age 60). Please don't assume all of us are hanging on for another 2% per year -- they come from all backgrounds. I'll take my 2 retirement checks and fade away to the lake or golf course as soon as possible -- We definitely need to make sure the next CBA protects those of us who DON'T want to work til we die.
