Its nice to hear the support!! Are we still short on 9CAs and shouldnt there be a proffer for 9 CAs by now??? Also what is the rumor on parking more 9s this fall. I would think we would have all bodies in place BEFORE the season rush. Sounds to me like we are a little behind on schools. The flipside is maybe they can only train so many at one time. Sounds like steady replacement would be in order as opposed to "crap now we are behind"
Probably a lot more going on than I can see from the outside.
Still Waiting.

Man they were short to begin with and then the last 9CA class 7 came out of the 76 right seat didnt they??? Seems like there should be a 76 proffer first. Man, I missed the 9CA proffer....I live for new proffers. Pathetic life dont your think. I like your avatar...we had a golden we lost to cancer...they are all good dogs.

Ultradrvr......I mean this as a serious question, not a rude jab.
Why do you want back to Abx so bad? Most everyone in the bottom 30%,or so of the seniority list is looking for a job. This is an incredable unstable place to work.
The company is shrinking, DHL is not comitted to Abx, we have over 50% of the fleet undeployable elsewhere. Morale is low.......
If you get recalled, how long do you expect to stay before they furlough you again? This in my opinion is a certanty, at some point. You might make three months, a year or even right to when the ACMI is not renewed......But you will be back on the street at some point.
Do yourself a favour, if and when the call comes, talk to Lynn Nowell our staff attorney and make your decision.
Abx is not Airbourne Express. Things have changed, and will continue to change. (Except our management)

Besides, it cant really get any worse can it? The way I see it is if it works out its a better job then ups or Fdex. IF. Granted thats a big IF. If DHL wants to stay in the US they need ABX Air.
I have to agree with Bitter. At this point, I would not recommend anyone coming on to ABX. Right now, all Joe Hete cares about is expanding his ACMI charter work in Asia. It generates a lot of revenue from each aircraft and pleases the shareholders. However, what is good for the shareholders isn't necessarily good for the pilot group. Joe can probably make as much profit flying 20 or so planes in Japan, but that would only support around 250 total pilots. We currently have close to 700 pilots. Without the work from DHL, hundreds of our pilots will be on the street as soon as DHL finds replacement aircraft. Granted, that can't happen overnight. But it can happen slowly if Joe isn't willing to work with DHL. We've already parked dozens of aircraft since the spin-off. If Joe doesn't agree to some kind of buyout or improve his business relationship with the Germans, I believe that trend will continue and ABX will become only a fraction of the size it is today.
Do what you want. But I fail to see how coming into this current situation will benefit you or your families' lives in the long run. Wait to see if ABX gets some long term agreement with DHL first. THAT is where the future of our jobs are. Good luck.

Why so negative on ABX. Yes it is in transition. No it is not the old Airborne. As for guys leaving, who. The pay rates at all the airlines hiring are horrendous. A ABX DC9 F/O makes more than a 777/747 (airline pilot central payguide) guy at united. Gotta love those bankruptcy courts ability to impose "new" pay rates. That said I would absolute leave for Brown, or Purple, no doubt.
As a half full type person there are some issues to work out at ABX, but I truely believe that DHL did not pi$$ away 1 billion dollars to let Astar bring them into the express cargo business. The Germans might be slow but maybe they are just waiting until Hete or the Das leave the party. If DHL wants something we have all seen that money is not the issue with them, when they want an overnight express airline they will get one regardless of Hete, Dasburgh, or any other CEO who thinks they can play with the big boys.

ud: I'd certainly accept a recall, if I were in your shoes. I surmise from your posts that present position isn't appealing long term yet its not so bad that you'd leave it for another corporate position(or another 121 nonsked). Now is a good time to re-evaluate ABX. (IMHO, ABX really has to recall/hire this time, even though I've been thinking that for last 2 years). Have you flown "glass" before? Do you fly a good number of hand flown approaches in present job? When things do finally happen, they will likely happen fast and heavy. You will likely NOT return as DC8SO, it is not entirely beyond the realm of possibility to be drafted into a B767FO on the Japan charters. Are you and family prepared for you being away 3 wks at a time, with possible jr man extensions? On the other side of the coin, the presim FBS sessions on the 76 are a major plus, but 5 or 6 "firehose" 9FO sim sessions are no time to play catch up. Plan accordingly, best wishes.
