UPS hiring update (Fall 2007)

I think you are missing the whole point of my response. If going to ANC even on the 400 is such a great deal, why were there so many seats left unbid?
Of course they dont have to come to work here yet many chose to eventhough they know they are going to ANC. Yet a "great deal" for most of them would have been to go to a fleet in the lower 48, even sitting sideway.

Swedish,
I thought the total number to be hired was 250 for the year and if you include the 8/27 class we are within 60 numbers of the 3000 total pilots number. I can't balance my checkbook, so dont trust my math. AND, Dukes, on Sundays..I'll be looking for ya..then Moose's, then Tsunami !!!
Freightpuppy, I agree with most of your post. I left the left seat of a 747 to come to UPS. Even as a newhire, it's a much better gig. Over a few margaritas, I will tell you how crappy being on the road for 38 days or having guns pointed in your face is.
Although, I must interject...there are truckloads of folks that want to go to ANC with UPS. You and I have both read of numerous fighter pilots from Elmendorf and locals that live in ANC that would love to be based in ANC. However, keeping in mind the Chinese fire-drill base of ANC and the shift of IRO positions from Capt to (new hire) F/Os has more than interested the FAA. During initial training and IOE, many of the folks "in the know" have said that the FAA gave UPS two choices about its Chinese fire drill in ANC.
1. Hire only overwater, widebody, international-ops qualified new hires for ANC.
2. Face increased scrutiny from the FAA in the form of line checks and ramp checks.
I'm sure the "local" folks mentioned above would do a fine job flying ANC to the Pac Rim, but the company and the FAA has determined that the best solution for the Chinese fire drill is to send the "heavy" guys to ANC.
Call me if ya wanna do Margaritas.

I can only tell ya from what I have read on this thread nothing makes a lot of sense. I should have been on the line 2 years ago instead of the pool. I have more than enough time in the left and right seat/ overwater/ and pacific/ asia experience. So you figure it out. Hr or someone else who calls the shots must either be down right sadistic or they have some other plan either way I still am flying out of anc and am pretty sure that it doesn't matter where a newbie goes, cause at least he's a brown one. Until then swimming like an otter.

The last I heard is that there is 20-30 floating, which is better than the 60 or so that were in the pool in Jan. To get the right answer one would have to call HR. a2b I am sorry that you have waited so long, I just pray that the wait will be worth it when the call does come.
