Tax Equalization - Take a close look at your situation

Since you like to drop names so much, and I'm sure your 727 "friend" is real happy with you pointing out his situation. ]
OK Sherlock, who is he? Bob...oops, I just dropped another name. Pal, you ain't a CPA, you ain't a tax lawyer and you haven't quite come to grips with the fact that you don't really know what the heck you are talking about. If this whole state tax thing is some big mystery to you, stick your toe in the water and find out about it. Or..you could Google up the tax code, paste it here and pat yourself on the back on the way to the bathroom. This guy, has done it in a perfectly legal way, and it , apparently galls you.....I guess that's a good thing.

AA,
Thanks for your usual reply to facts being presented to you and you not being able to refute them.

Tax Jurisdiction
It doesn't matter what kind of trail you make with regard to "equalization". You aren't justifying anything to the IRS or any state. THE COMPANY, is going to take whatever tax obligation would be owed if you were actually present in the state from which you were relocated. It's a question of stuff. All that nice guy in Memphis cares about is what address the moving truck was dispatched to/from pack up and send your stuff.
Hi Brown,
My previous post had nothing to do with tax equalization, it was meant to show the complexities involved with changing a residency while living in two states.
In regards to tax equalization, the company stated they will tax you based on the state tax jurisdiction from which you were relocated. I think thats a little different. This is JMHO, but the state that had the right to collect taxes (tax jurisdiction) would be the state that would apply, example: you paid NY state taxes in 2007 and leave without changing state residences, tax jurisdiction=NY, this should be easy to confirm or deny by calling PWC. I would love to be proved wrong, it would sure be a plus.
But I agree with you on the premise that you will pay a theoretical tax, given to the company, as if you were still physically residing in a state, whether or not that state has any tax forgiveness for expat income is irrelevant. The only question is which state?
