Housing question

There was much DIS-information at last nights hub meeting. DW shut down some late vocal opposition by reffering us to Section 24 B.2 concerning Temporary Vacancies. One of us suggested that the current CBA would not allow us to be Involuntarily displaced to an FDA and DW responded that we could. I looked at the CBA 24 B.2 and I don't see how they can. It specifically says they can ONLY to NON-FDA domiciles.
I propose the MEC go back to the table with a fair and rational mindset and this time, go with the intent on representing us. Vote NO.

Well, pilots being what they are, we are all probably ready to sell our homes at the bottom of the housing market anyway! Buy high and sell low, right?

According to DW last night, the thought process was that you'd rent your house out for the 2 yrs, use that mortgage money, $2000, plus the $2700 to help pay for housing and living during the 2 yr adventure.
The $2000 figure was an average that was used knowing some pay more and some pay less. So the renters are still putting equity into your US home and you have the ability to live and experience a foreign culture for 2 yrs or so.
Not my words but could see how it makes sense...

I decided to go to the horse's mouth for my next bit of research. I called Allied Van Lines and Bekins for estimates to pack, move and store my household goods. The first quote from Allied was based on 16,000 pounds of goods. The second quote from Bekins was based on 12,000 pounds of household goods. This is typical for a 3-4 bedroom fully furnished home according to the poeple I spoke to on the phone. Obviously special situations can apply such as pianos, art, etc.

Whaaat? Rent your house out for 2 years, and that rent money goes to pay, most likely, only PART of your mortgage. Then you still have to fork out several grand over the $2,700 HOA each month to rent a so-so place in HKG. The numbers just don't work, folks. I'm single, in my 50s, childless, and I can't afford this deal. VOTE NO.
