Additionally, in some medical or college testing ties were shown to reduce blood flow to the brain. Nothing like reduced blood flow and an 8000' cabin to get a good buzz on.

I have always thought ties were a safety issue, but maybe its just me. Also, there is nothing like a nice wobbly article of clothing hanging around your neck to snag something during an emergency evac. I can just see the report.... "Pilot exited aircraft via cockpit window without a scratch, then was accidentaly hung when his tie became caught on the pitot tube."

I know the professionalism angle but seriously, do you really think you need the uniform to do your job professionally?
Indeed Wear as little as possible I say.................

If that's who I would fly with, as little as possible suits me just fine.

jeez guys...

I always thought a flight suit, 9 mm, harness, snappy hard hat, and go fast pants were about as professional as it got! OK, maybe it wasn't all that professional, but I sure enjoyed the work. For now, I'll just have to settle for my PJ's and slippers from the hotel. Times have changed.

And I agree in cruise for cargo pilots we should be able to just fly in a t shirt or whatever floats your boat,,,,and getting back to the point of the thread on whether or not it is professional to wear a uniform or not...i guess a bunch of us are just professional for the takeoff and landing,,,I take my tie off most of the time in cruise..i guess that is not safe for some people...never wore PJ's though...I might just try boxers...
We had one crewmember who was just deadheading out of Hong Kong. He decided to go in nice pants and a polo shirt. He was listed on the GD but they would not let him through immigration. He even pulled his uniform out of his bag to show he was a crewmember with UPS. NO LUCK. would not let him through.

We left there years ago, went to the Imperial between Jammy's and Debbie's for years, and we moved again a few months ago!
