Hey, we all ***** and moan about the way the a/c look. Peeling paint, different panels from different paint jobs, etc. etc. Does it give you a warm fuzzy to be in an airplane that looks like crap. But it flies fine. I have flown with very few pilots that looked like crap but were outstanding and vice versa. Generalization, I know and probably many examples to the contrary. One very small reason United's strike was successful way back yonder was the professionalism and looks of the picket line. It was a model that everyone seems to follow these days. You want to be taken seriously, act and look serious. Simple, really.

OH and BTW, just show up for your interview in jeans and a tshirt. "But I can really fly really good, and have lots of quality time. What difference does it make what I look like?" That'll get you the job, for sure. Just remember this little gem, "It doesn't matter how good or bad you do a job, it's how good you look doing it. (unless of course metal or people are bent)".

I actually like the chipping paint and dirty engines. Gives the planes character. Especially the old DC-3 freighters in LGB. Loud roaring radials, blowing smoke, oil skidmarks on the cowling, chipping paint!! Haugh Haugh Haugh!! Same with those dirty old 747-100/200s and greasy DC-10Fs!!! MANS' AIRPLANES!! Oil, grease, noise and CHIPPING PAINT!!!! Haaarr!!
