could vote for option 1 and move a couple of tons, but, still have to keep it within 100 NM per the contract
to be precise
6.2.B.2.d (and .e says it must be in the same country)

No guarantees since I am a pilot, but, pretty sure Thailand and Hong Kong aren't in the same country.

But, the way I read the LOA, if I vote to move a bunch of stuff, don't even get the 10k of seed money that I get if I choose door #2.

So, existing contract get 10k or 79CH
CDG new hire Capt (757) would choose 10k or 12.8k...FO would go for the 10k
HKG new hire Capt (Bus) would choose 15k, new hire FO still go for the 10k

Of course, the existing contract mandates staying in the FDA for 18 mos or you have to pay the company back

Meaning no disrespect to anyone here, but this thread was simply about commuting from Thailand to Hong Kong. Perhaps a few of the replies here might make better posts on other threads, thereby allowing those interested to see the responses, as not everyone is interested in living or commuting to/from Thailand.

I dont know anything about anything, but how cheap/feasible would it be to live in CAN? After all, thats where the hub is right? And yes, I have been to CAN.

viktorbravo, it's probably pretty cheap compared to Hong Kong. Of course, it is one of the most polluted cities in the world. Also, as I've posted before, do you really want to live in a country where the legal system assumes you are guilty if you are accused of any legal infraction? Have a dispute with your landlord. Bump into someone with your car. Any other little dispute blows up between you and a Chinese national- guess who the police are going to side with, and guess who gets taken to jail. At that point, good luck getting a fair hearing in the Chinese courts; especially when you shouldn't expect the company to come to bat for you (your domicile is Hong Kong, not Guangzhou).
Am I a little paranoid? Yeah, maybe.

Can you FedEx types get ID90s on the passenger airlines? If you can, then life should be easy to commute between Thailand and Hong Kong. There's gotta be upwards of 15 flights a day between TG, CX, KA and Thai Orient.

If you can't get ID90s...I guess you're down to UPS and FedEx to get you to work. I guess UPS flies BKK-CRK-HKG.

There are many expats living all over China and they don't get locked up every other week like that other guy is trying to have you believe.

Should be cheap as hell!

unless I'm greatly mistaken,
aren't most ID90's space A?

and if so, why not just J/S?

Getting residency in Thailand is not as easy as it used to be. They also changed the visa requirements so you can't just come and go as you please. I believe after a few trips they now say you have to stay OUT of the country for a certain amount of time(over 30 days). I will look for the info.

You could also try living in the Philippines. English is widely spoken and I believe by the end of the year there will be many flights from Clark direct to Bangkok/Singapore/Hongkong.

Your option to jumpseat will be limited to just UPS and FedEx..how else are you going to get from BKK to HKG?

None of the foreign airlines will allow you to jumpseat and none of the US pax carriers fly that route.

United was flying BKK-HKG until a few years ago.

info like that is probably in the minority opinion.

of course, tripmanager shows a reasonable ticket price for the 3 hour flight there.
