Default The LOA and system form

While we debate the merits, or in this case the lack of merit in this LOA, one of the most important questions has not been asked? What will system form look like for these two domiciles? Will the schedules allow someone sufficient time off to get back home? Will it be week on - week off? How many legs per night? What will be the ratio of daytime flying to night? You pick the question. We won't know until long after this bid has closed whether these bases will provide decent flying or not. I'd be cautious bidding something like that until I knew.

Having been based in Subic for 7 years, I haven't always enjoyed the seniority I have today. If a new hire first officer takes the carrot offered by the company for employment at FedEx, provided he or she takes the FDA, and they don't want to move their family (on $58 per hour), that person may go months before they can get home. It takes me about 27 hours from Subic to Memphis, and about 30 - 32 hours to the east coast of the US. You gain 12 to 13 hours going to the US and loose the same when headed for Asia. Basically, you'll loose about 3 days commuting.

Hey Prez this might be worth mentioning

Anyone who goes to either FDA will find themselves with a very small paycheck when they go back to MEM for their annual check ride. When the SFS crews go back to MEM unless training can be done on days off. The company will take out approx 11 days of work to put in your travel days and training by the way our paycheck structure is:TRN DFT VLT to be paid on the following month's 15th paycheck. This is not an issue for any other base but it will be for sure in HKG. Just ask any SFS crew. Here is an email sent to the SFS crews that saids it all.

Just a heads up when you're bidding for training. If you protect min days and they drop trips/r days for training, you will not get
paid the TOD until the following month. In other words, if you have 11 days of training and you have 4 rdays left, you will get a c
heck on the 15th of that month that will be half of the remaining RLG. You can mitigate this by going into the drop add and doing CIA if you choose to. Might want to get into the contract and take a look at this one.

DW implied at the hub turn meeting that the lines and everything else about these two FDAs would highly encourage people to live nearby. That's the whole point of them.....more productivity, less travel time (DH) etc.

In other words, am and pm out and backs with an hour and a half drive each way to work. Hmmm, no thanks. Once the comany has everyone established and everyone is fairly happy, the optimizer will kick in and life goes down the crapper. Anyone think this will be an enjoyable vacation will suffer from culture shock.

FDXBUSCAPT,
You may be right, or you may be wrong. Either way, I do so admire your deductive reasoning. Maybe you should change your screen name to Sherlock Holmes.

You are looking at 3-4 hours each way, not 1 1/2. That is all off the clock if this LOA passes. And that is with no line at Chinese customs. You will of course have to do that on both ends of your trip. Oh what fun that will be.

Don't worry, where the STV's live isn't spelled out either. I'm betting grandpa MAO Red Roof Inn. Conveniently located within walking distance of the Ginzao AOC.
