The fact remains that for "similar craft and class" expat employees, (i.e., Cathay pilots, and does that language sound familiar? it should), the standard is much more of a monthly housing allowance (HOA) and COLA. Namely, US $5K to buy a place, $6.6K for an FO to rent, $8.2K for a captain to rent, and $3K if you want to live elsewhere.
Plus, do you know the hotel staff in the HKG Sheraton says it's AT LEAST a 5-hour drive to Guangzhou ... with the airport on the FAR side of town, so it's probably longer than that? They said it's best to go early in the morning, because there are truck clogging the road at night. I guarantee you nobody on the "fact-finding" junket bothered to drive it at the time we'd be going. They eyeballed a map and said, "Hmmm ... 165 miles [or whatever it is] ... 3 hours sounds about right." As if I-95 went right by there. What a crock! You'd have 6 hours under your belt by the time you show up for your trip. This LOA should be DOA. VOTE NO.
