UPS Hire Chances?
I keep hearing rumors about UPS opening up the window again in August or September. I just got the 1000 hours of PIC turbine and it is heavy time with lots of international (oceanic crossings), civilian background, college degree, and NO INTERNAL RECOMMENDATION. Any chances of an interview without the recs. Just curious.
Thanks

Yes, that's the beauty of the new application process. Apparently recs don't even count until you are selected for an interview. We have had quite a few people hired recently without recommendations. Good Luck!

So how much weight do internal recs carry once in the interview? I would assume having them is better than not having them, but how big an advantage is it over someone with none?

I wish I could answer that with 100% certainty. The answer is that I don't know. A person in HR told me that a rec does not matter a whole lot. This person said it adds "one point" to your score (whatever that means). A buddy of mine that is in class said that he was told that recommendations matter "quite a bit". FWIW. I would get one if you can but I wouldn't not apply if you don't have one, know what I mean?

I've been told that with the "old" (in other words >8 months old ) application system a recommendation could help you to get an interview but once you were interviewing you were on your own. With the new system, you have to get an interview on your own since they don't actually review recommendations for you until after your interview. Recommendation might help you later if you struggled with something in your interview but it really won’t do much for you as far as getting the interview itself. So that would imply to me that a recommendation is not required to get an interview nowadays. Again, this is just what I heard from a line pilot who's friend was interviewing. Also, recently I ran into some applicants waiting for their interviews in SDF and almost all of them were current MD11 or 747 drivers or former KC135 drivers, only a few had an internal recommendation. One guy got the call two months after applying! Good luck!
