I got assigned a DP on a VTO about a year ago, but I didn't know that the company wasn't supposed to do that. Giving the new hire the benenfit of the doubt, maybe he also does not know this and should contact the company/union to resolve it.

Unfortunately there is an OCT 'new' hire FO with 5 DP's for his July line....dont think it was by mistake.

Exactly, there were many, many DP's left over after Secondary lines were constructed for us (reserve/commuters) to pick up in open time. Perhaps ALPA could resend information via email or mail to emphasize the importance of not volunteering for these trips? But I am sure that has already been done many times over. Beating the stick....
