Hopefully the company and union will work out a reasonable package of incentives for both the Hong Kong and Paris domiciles. There's incentive for both parties to do so. However, if, when the "package" is announced, it still doesn't meet your needs, then simply vote with your wallet and don't bid these bases. Someone will, that's for sure. Both of these places offer fantastic opportunities for culture, diversity, excitement, as well as offering young children the ability to learn at least one foreign language, while learning firsthand how other cultures live. As well, it seems to me that both of these domiciles are in areas where you don't necessarily have to live in that city. The cost of living, education, etc, etc, is high in both Paris and Hong Kong, but one can live a relatively short distance away from base and live quite nicely. As well, if these bases go junior, don't underestimate the pay differential of that higher paying seat you should be able to hold (captains excluded, for the most part.) I also suspect that these bases will be immune from the "Age 60+" guys, so for those of you who are dead set against flying with us, maybe that's your ticket out. Regardless of what move/incentive package the two parties come up with, some of us will still think it's not enough. I'd suggest that rather than b!tch!ng about it, you just don't bid that base. It should still offer some upward movement, because others who are probably senior, will.

Personally I think that the company should not only offset the outrageous cost of living in both of these (god forsaken imo) places, but there should be an actual incentive for putting yourself and your family out for the company's sake. Just like they would do for any similarly compensated executive.
