Of course wait and see what it says.
But if the Document has what all the rumors say it has
$3000 + or - housing
Bonus Stipend 10K
Foreign Taxes paid by Fedex and tax returns by CPA
Based (living) in Hong Kong instead of Guangzhou
Then I would say yes.........again because it is significantly better than the FDA language we currently have. I hope it is more and so do many others.
If you think we have leverage to Demand more, then please enlighten us?

If the package is as good as I would expect to see in our next contract I'll vote yes if not no.

According to the last message line, the MEC is negotiating with the company about a LOA and pay for an FDA. So, what proposition has the union brought to the table? Is DW so concerned about dues that he won't bring actual COLA to the table? Since I'm not in the top 500 and my voice means nothing, why not a senior MD11 capt, (hint, hint) suggest to the powers that be that COLA would be far better for everyone? It might show some goodwill when our leadership NEEDS to show it to the membership? Again, if it saves the company money, and gets more in the pocket of the pilot, why would anyone not bring that to the table? I hope the membership doesn't get back-doored again, especially since the company is at the table and talking.

Let's Cut to the chase....................
I don't disagree that HKG and Paris are expensive. I don't know for sure what the Company is offering, although I am sure it will be below what many feel is warranted.
I keep hearing this common theme. We need to look at Reality................
The Current Contract allows ( permits, grants, whatever) the Company the authority to open new FDA's (HKG and CDG) and pay nothing! Do you not realize that? Look at Section 6 and read it.(6.2.A.4 )and (6 2.E.) Tell me where the company has to offer anything, other than what is in print there?
What leverage does the Union and membership have? Sure we can vote down any LOA forthcoming, but then what??
What will you and others say when the FDA domcile bid comes out and folks bid it regardless? Or it is filled/ staffed by some other way with "other" folks?
What are the Alternatives?
Where is the leverage?

It seems, if the rumors are true, that the company wants to offer something above what the contract allows in order to attract some senior enough (read other than new-hires), internationally experienced individuals to fill the FDA slots. I am not surprised that the company is willing to negotiate an LOA nor am I surprised at the "low-ball" numbers, if accurate. Either way the ball gets put in our court. Vote down the LOA in hopes to negotiate a more favorable package or possibly risk the flying being farmed out completely.

And if they do, they will. It's that simple...

"Not arguing with your reading of section 6 (you've done it, I haven't, and I'd guess most here haven't either) but if what you say is totally true, why hasn't the company just opened a FDA sooner?? This has been an on again off again thing from FedEx mgt and if it was so easy to shove down our throats, why have they waited, and why negoiate at all?? I think there is more to this than Fedex "wanting to do the right thing" .I guess we will have to wait for the road show to know!"
It seems to me we are looking at another agreement with FDX where we are being told if we don't vote yes we better be ready for the worst. What ever happened to giving us something to vote on that we voted yes on because it was a good and fair deal instead of being told what might happen if we turn it down? I will wait on the LOA to make up my mind but will not vote yes just because it's a little better than it would be under the current contract. Take a look at what Cathay does for their pilots in HKG and then compare. It's worth almost triple what I have seen offered here. Bottom line is whatever we give them on this LOA now will be there for a long time and effect a lot more pilots than just the first to be assigned to these FDA's. If we vote it down on it's merits, the next thing to do is educate those that might bid it anyway as to what they can expect, especially those who think they will live high on the hog as a NB Capt or F/O in Paris. Anyway, I look forward to a time when our MEC brings us something they are proud of instead of something they sell us on as "it will be worse if you don't vote yes".
