Well Huck, I had my doubts during the contract negotiations, but not any longer. Only took me about 5 years to learn what the UNION was all about.
Fortunately I didn't have to go through multiple companies to get my education, so I am lucky, not too much time spent believing that they were actually concerned about all of us.
If any of the junior guys had any doubts about whose interests the FedEx MEC serves this whole fiasco should have cleared them up.
Nice to know what "value" we are getting out of our 1.95%.

I think that the whole problem here stems from the previous negotiating committee polls. They always asked "Who has more credibility in your opinion, the company, or the union?" Too many people answered that the union is "far more credible than the company". I don't trust either any farther than I can throw a cat.

I was one who trusted and backed the negotiating committee. I still thing they did a decent job.
However--the captial expended to help the senior folks certainly does make me raise my eyebrow now a little bit.
Union starts with U. We need to keep the union but ditch the guys who've gotten too comfortable off the line and writing emails. If "they" realize believe in sticking together and solidarity, they'll be the first to help the new reps get off on a good start. If they go "hmmmph" and sulk off in the distance then we'll at least know the truth.

There is an agenda on both sides.....I am a member of the Union, and an employee of the company BUT both are out for a piece of you if they can get it.
By the way, I don't know why all the junior guys feel the union wasn't just looking out for them, I'm 57 and didn't want the Union to roll over on this any more than a 30 year old.....so WATCH IT YOU YOUNGSTERS, we have a right to be ****ed at the union just as much as you.

The reason I'm ****ed at the MEC is that they were looking out for the older folks, like yourself, not what the majority of the crew force wanted. In your example, you can retire under the current contract, with all its provisions, at age 60. Care to bet that when I hit 60, in 21 years, that I will be able to do the same?? Feel free to be as mad as us "youngsters" are, just understand where most of our anger comes from.
Carry on.
PS- I am ****ed at our MEC for the same reason you are, FWIW.

YGTBSM...........Yea, I wish we never stood together as a union and negotiated a contract.
I long for the days of the FAB. I wish we were non-union during the airline blood-bath. We would have faired much better.

I can tell you for a fact that they have people monitoring postings on the internet. During my time as a Sysop on the old FedEx forum on AVSIG (97-98), I used to cross post stuff between AOL and CS. I had a meeting with Dennis B. the Monday after Black Thursday for, something stupid that I had done (send an email to FWS will get you some face time with the CP ) and he slid a whole stack of stuff in front of me. I challenged him to find anything that I said bad about the company or an individual, used profanity, and/or anything else less than professional (not including my email to FWS ), and that most of the stuff was other people's content that I was just cross posting between the two message boards. He said "fair enough" and dropped the issue of the interent postings, but they have their people watching!
