Just heard the same regarding hiring and overmanning. No hiring until next spring and we are fat on pilots. Straight from an ACP.

Also heard June for the bid, Paris is a sure thing and they are still trying to work out HK.

It will be very interesting to see how this bid looks. This probably means we will wait to hire again when we are 300+ undermanned.

Standard practice for the bean counters. Hold off on hiring until you are undermanned enough to be drafting continuously in all seats, and then about-face and tell Flt Mgmt to hire so many the training dept. is running mandatory drafts for all instructors, just to keep up. It's a continuous cycle.

I have heard about the not hiring until its too painful thing. It makes sense and has been done before.

But how did the bean counters approve the amount of hiring that got us into the "fat" state we are now in? It can't all be due to over 60 guys coming to the back seat.

My guess would be the excess from the 10 and wall street says our volumes are down.....just a guess.

I think it was 2 things..

1) Negotiations. Keep hiring and upgrading. Happy campers are easier to negotiate with, than disgruntled pilots. It's easy to forget how far behind we were when we've got guys making captain in 4 years.

2) I think the bean counters underestimated our lack of resolve to at least maintain our quality of life in our schedules. Or, our seeming lack of outrage concerning being optimized. They are doing the same thing with the optimizer, they did back in 98'. Only, at a much slower pace. I guess it must feel better to us, this way.

Funny how the hiring slowed soon after the contract was ratified.

Do you think that maybe the company purposely overstaffed the Airline before coming into Peak 2006 as we neared the End Game of negotiations?

In 1997-8 (end game of contract 1)they almost has 100% reserve coverage in some seats.

If the pilots had only understood and had been unified in 1995 (stopped the xtra flying) they had the companyby the B#lls. The company has since learned never to be in that position again....................

I hope that everyone will understand that we will need that unity again in the future.....in spite of age 60.

Obviously our lack of knowledge on DP's is showing that unity will never be achieved no matter what the situation.
