“Prime Air”
While non-revving yesterday, overheard what i’m assuming to be an Atlas pilot (could be wrong) telling the girl next to him in the row behind me that he flies for “Amazon Prime Air” and how in addition to a great salary he got in early with some great stock options.
Now, I get being embarassed to say you work at Atlas given the current management issues, and I certainly get not feeling like explaining the ACMI model to some no-nothing pax...... but this was some pretty next level BS. Right up there with “I fly the EMB-175 for United Airlines”.

People think that UPS and Fed Ex are the only cargo companies in town. People can identify Prime Air now as well. It's a lot easier than saying ATI, ABX, Atlas, etc. Every time I say Kalitta, I have to say, "the famous drag racer, Connie Kalitta", even then, if they aren't into racing, they don't have a clue. Then I just say I fly 747's international... Best option yet is I tell them I am unemployed and just like building stuff. Let them scratch their head as to how I can afford to do so unemployed.

I can't believe people are so lame as to actually care about this
"so who do you fly for?"
"Atlas/ABX/ATI"
"Whats that?"
"We mostly fly for DHL"
"I thought they went out of business?"
"We also do the new Amazon stuff... youve probably seen it on the news"
"Oh cooooooooool. So do you ever want to fly commercial?"
Every. single. time. Who cares?

I am so often embarrassed for my gender. We really are a bunch of muscleheads when it comes to the fairer sex.
If you are trying to get with somebody, which presumably this dude was trying to do, the right answer to her question about your occupation is always a nonchalant, "A little of this and a little of that".
Mystery. Intrigue. The key to all hook-ups.
No charge for the advice. 😉
