Check out the pay scales and working conditions in Canada, Europe, Asia, etc. and then come back ans tell us how much we should aspire to emulate their systems.

The big difference is the training. I flew in VN for years and had many 250 hr FOs. Most were fine to very good very few were less. The training for these 250 hr FOs is very streamlined for the specific airline. These FOs know the manuals inside and out, they know the SOPs to the dot, they know exactly what is expected of them and what is expected of you. CRM in VN is usually addressed by the FO after the flight: excuse me capt but.....
What these FOs lack is experience but flying 800+ hours a year they pick up a thing or two.
I would love to give up several of my 5000 hour US FOs for one or two of the 250 hours I used to fly with.

Default 747 Training

Who does National do their 747 type rating training with and where? How long is the training foot print, what does it consist of and what hotels do they put you in for training?

There never was.

Just experience. When the age trips to 67 or whatever, then perhaps… Japan is a good example, but they are picky or became more picky…

I completely agree with this, European airlines and their contracts are just rubbish. I know many pilots there in LCC and Legacy and they are not good.

National, like Western Global, both contract to use two simulators just north of Miami Airport. I forgot it’s name. Pacific Coast? One of the simulators used to belong to UAL. Training takes about 6 weeks. Two weeks of Indoc in Orlando. Then, in Miami, non-motion FTD’s before proceeding to full motion. Online 747 familiarization modules will have to be completed prior to commencing training in MIA. The training program in Miami is tailored specifically for individuals w previous Boeing time. It has also been shortened. Inexperienced Boeing fellows can still pass. I did.

Candlewood usually for all training events though I stayed at the Marriott last time.

They are also hiring using E-3 Visas because they have sub par pay and benefits.
