Default VIPS Question - Pay

Looking @ the Pilot Pay Summary on VIPS my Total Pay Hours are 44 vice 55:51 Computed BLG. Does that mean I'm "in the hole" for 11 hours? Paid R-Days (4) = 18:16, Total Reserve = 10:34, RLG = 7:42. Thanks in advance.

RLG=7:42, must be RLG Adjustment=7:42. RLG Adjustment + Total Reserve = Paid R-days which should also be equal to the second line (RLG). Is it? If not, what is on that line?

Did you have vacation? Did you drop or trade anything? Did you have training?

You are in the hole for the 11:51 according to what you posted, but it sounds like you aren't sure why. We need more information. Look at your calendar, select View Activites and then click on Include Cancels.

If you want to cut and paste your screens and PM them to me, I'll try and help you sort it out.

I found the link. I have 11:51 in General Makeup Bank. I dropped R days to pick up open time. Was rejected several times for 12 hour infringement. If I pick up open time to cover the make up bank when does it go away? At the end of the bid, or does it carry over?

As soon as you pick up a trip in makeup, the trip hours are subtracted from your bank. You keep you general makeup "forever". Drop now as a S/O and make it up later as a captain...

That is something that I confused on too. If you drop R days my understanding is that you are playing with fire as far as picking somthing up, but if you have dropped let's say 2 R-days so you could fit a 22 hour trip into your line would you get denied because the total value of the new line is over by more than 12 hours from the original R line value? Does the 12 hour rule still hold true if you are using your General Makeup Bank to pick up the trip?

Thanks,

The 12 hour infringement he was getting was actually a 12 hour buffer between the R day and another activity.

If you drop 9 hours worth of R days and have more hours in your makeup bank you could pick up that 22 hour trip, but you have to have a 12 hour buffer before or after an R day to get that 22 hour trip. Sometimes they will require more of a buffer, esp if you are trying to pick up a standby.

You do need to be careful dropping R days because you might not be able to pick up enough from open time to prevent a loss of pay. Lots of times when there is enough manning to allow for R day drops there isn't much in open time to pick up to recover the pay.

The original line value has no real impact here. If you have enough hours in your makeup bank you can increase your line value much more than 12 hours. You can't trip trade more than 6 hours I think from trip to trip or go into the "hole" on your makeup bank more than 6 hours.

Or less, or no buffer, when you're picking up that nice DP that's been sitting there!

Doesn't matter what you dropped. It matters what you have in your makeup bank. If you see a great trip (a weekend layover in your college room-mates hometown, as a for instance) and have the time off, you don't have to drop anything, just pick it up, assuming you have time in your makeup bank. Most of the time in my bank comes from carry-in conflicts.

Maybe a couple of quotes from the “good book” will help.
25. L. 5. Make-Up (M/U, CMU, MUS, MUV)
a.A pilot shall have the ability to submit for a specific trip(s) or standby(s) from open time (as provided in Section 25.G.2.) to make up eligible credit hours. These submissions, along with trip trades, will be processed in the order received.
e. A pilot is not eligible for a make-up assignment that exceeds his make- up eligibility by more than 6 CH.

25. L. 7. Trading With Open Time
A pilot shall have the ability to submit to trade his trip(s) for another trip(s) in open time. The net effect of any trade(s) in a bid period may not increase his BLG, as published, by more than 12 CH.
A note on going negative in your makeup bank. It does go back to Zero on the first day of the next bid month. It will still be negative on Crazy Thursday since that is still in the current (negative) bid month. So you won't be able to get another makeup trip until you are no longer in the hole.
