Nothing wrong with my shoes, I get them shined whenever I have time passing through a terminal. At least they aren't some of these:
No hardware for me, but fu manchu? Hmmmmm.....

This reminds me of a time when we got a new Commandant of the CG in about 84. Up until that time you could wear a beard in the CG if you weren't on flight status, and many of our seagoing and desk jockeys sported beards in honor of the old seagoing traditions. New Commandant comes in and the FIRST thing he did was ban beards.
Now I could understand somebody not liking beards in the military and waiting their 28-30 years of active duty to make it to Commandant and getting to make policy that you'd wanted all that time. But, does it have to be the FIRST thing that you do? What kind of message does that send? To me it further solidified my belief that the guys at the top of the CG organization were out to lunch. That was just me, and a few others.
So while we continue to have issues with training and accidents our new CP has decided to address how we look in his first missive. I kind of get the same feeling that I had back in 84. Is this really the most pressing think on O's plate?
Oh well.

You want to MANAGE, then you confront the problem. You want to complain about problems (like we all do on here) then you sit at a computer and throw bombs at everyone who has to read it (like o's email)!
I'd have more respect for him if he contacted employees he has a problem with and kindly asked them to join him in his office for coffee with their
ALPA rep.

Redeye took acception to my acception. He feels the company owes us more than a great paycheck, topnotch vacation system, world class A fund, and adequate B fund. He wants to be motivated and feel the love. The SCP should be daddy. I wanted to point out how poor some daddy's are and AB was playing while I was making my post. Apologies for AB.
But not for the rest of my posts. I am 50 years old and now what a good job is and when I am doing it; as with the other 95%ers. Save the motivation for the little league team. I am married; I know when bit*hing is directed at me if I can either let it slide or turn off the TV and come to attention. OR's bit*hin was a let it slide: I should know whats it was but it wasn't about me.
Thanks for the KIWI offer but the Air Force taught me how to shine shoes. Once a quarter I stop between the A and B concourse at the PAX terminal. Cost about 6 bucks or what a Marine spends on KIWI every three months. And yes I know it is the union that makes the great paycheck et al possible.

Here is how it got there. Huck made a post (since deleted) complaining about how hard life was here at FEDEX, how much we sacrifice, and how little we are appreciated. I took acception to that. Everyone here is a volunteer, and everyone who sacrifices here ( after 18 months) is choosing money over schedule.

This is the biggest bull crap, management-like mantra, self-centered, leadership-lacking statement that I've ever heard. Everything in life is Voluntary! Even taxes. Everything is a choice! Just because I don't quit every time I don't like something, it doesn't mean that I have to pretend that it's acceptable just because I voluntarily stay there.
By your logic, nobody need exercise any good leadership, because everybody volunteered to be there and that's his or her problem. I'm sure glad I never worked for you, 'cause I've had bosses with that mentality and they're the worst.
