Paris (or anywhere in Europa) on narrowbody pay should be interesting. Nothing like a giant step backwards.

News varies on point of view....
727 SO Flexes talk about the big influx of over 60 guys to the back seat. The flexes' have actually lost seniority in bidding their line of choice once a quarter.
They also talk about the coming avalanche of over 60 SO's from the DC10 to the 727. This assumes they don't retire.
The over 60 dudes coming over to the 727 at 2-3 a month (Is it more lately?) has negatively affected hiring but positively affected upgrade times. Most DC-10 SO's are over 60. DC-10 will probably get a big drawdown reflected in the next bid and send more to the 727.
So the lack of meet and greets and slow hiring is starting to make more sense. 530 on 727 SO list and only 400 on 727 FO list.
The 727 (minus 8-10 planes) keeps going strong until at least 2012. Don't know the retirement schedule but it won't be next year. The trend of recent hire SO's able to go widebody FO in one bid after hire will likely continue unabated, albeit a 14-18 month wait for training. Unless you like ANC, then its much shorter.
Newhires will likely see a mix of assignments. But this mix will be heavily "managed". MD11 newhires will be picked for experience and/or who they know in the company. Maybe the same will happen with newhire 757 FO's. MD11 classes likely to be at the beginning like last time. Don't know about 757 or 727 FO classes. 727 FO newhire slots will probably be near the beginning or in the middle, but after MD 11 FO, so the more senior bidders (current 727 FOs) go to training ahead of current 727 SOs.
Still a lot of 727 SO positions, a few 727 FO (up to 1/3 of last year's classes), MD 11 FO ANC and 757 FO for Newhires. Why newhires to 757??? 727 FO's won't go to training for the same pay and 727 SO's go widebody. Displaced DC-10 FO's will all go Airbus FO, MD11 FO or 727/757 CA.
MOAB. Has to be. Healthy addition of widebodies and more 757s coming than 727 retirements (I hope that trend continues). Retirement eligibles, approaching 200, are an unknown but much less than is required by growth. Age 65 rule making is in its infancy.
Newhires have a better chance than ever at landing an FO spot immediately. No one will have to stay in the back seat after one bid.

Thanks for the info.

IMHO if FDX wants to get MD and Bus F/O to bid to 757 Captain there should be some sort of pop pay. Not quite wide body pay but better than 727 rates. Good luck to a 1st year or second year F/O living in Paris on narrow body pay.

For what it's worth. I'm going through training now and one the instructors said that one of the training schedulers said that the bid is now scheduled for May 1. Didn't REO Speedwagon have a song about hearing it from friend who, heard it from a friend who, ......

Set to close on the 1st or come out on the 1st? Not that it really matters...
