You can get hired at any major without a degree except Delta and FedEx, age not a factor.

You can also win the Lottery. All you need to do is buy a ticket and take your chances. It is "possible" to get hired without a degree BUT you are placing yourself in the far left pinpoint of the bell curve statistically.

Yes, you are correct that it's difficult getting hired without the degree but many are getting hired without it.

You can hired at 60+; you might hired without a degree or no TPIC, but you are way, WAAY out at the tails of the curve. At a legacy today, infinitesimally small odds, at Spirit or Alligent, better odds it still a long shot realistically. And would it be better paid, during the remaining 4-5 years, maybe?

I personally know a handful of guys who have no degree and are doing very well in the airlines, domestically and abroad..If one lacks a degree and gets good regional airline experience or corporate experience, they may have a chance to move up to heavier equipment at Legacy(except Delta/Fedex), Major, ACMI or a Foreign airline. I know so many that I don't know where to start. Worse case scenario, without a degree, one flies at the Regionals or Corporate for their entire career. There are many worse things in life than that.
