Default Uniform shirts. Yes, really...

Hi

All the pilots I see in the US wear short sleeve shirts. Simple question, do any majors, United in particular, dictate this, or is it personal choice?

Easy explanation, poor decision making in my younger years and both arms are tattoo'd. I've been at an overseas legacy for more than a decade with no problems wearing long sleeves. I'd just hate to jump through another set of hoops in order to fly in the states, only to be told "we wear short sleeve shirts around here, boy!"

I'm weighing up all my options at the moment, so if past dumb-ass behaviour is a stopper, I'd rather know now.

Cheers

Personal choice.

However, at many airlines, if you wear the long sleeves you must also wear the jacket with them.

I know a couple pilots with arm tattoos.
Interview in long sleeves, show up to work in long sleeves.

Agree with PotatoChip.

I wear long sleeves in the cooler months (by choice) but short sleeves for the warmer months.

The pilots I fly with wear both, although short sleeves are probably more popular, especially in the summer. At my carrier, the requirement to wear the jacket is purely seasonal and independent of whether you are wearing long or short sleeves.

For the long term, if you have regrets about the tats, you might consider laser removal.

Here's one link to "Dr. Tatt-off" ... Lol

Ha! Thanks.

I went down the removal road a long time ago. I've tried lasers and another horrible method I won't go into.

Long story short, it ain't happening. I even had to get new ink over the ****e I tried to get removed because it looked so bad.

The tax on stupidity can be rather high...

If you are wearing long sleeves in MIA, ATL, IAH... or any number of other HOT southern, southwestern cities in the heat of the summer.... you may get some odd looks...lol

I live south of all of those places; you're preaching to the choir, brother!

I've seen a few guys that wear a skin toned Under Armor type long sleeve shirt and wear a short sleeve pilot shirt on top.
