Is app to regnls realistic with my low hrs?
I've never in my life considered flying in the airlines before now. So have spent the last month trying to understand the industry.
I'm currently a missionary pilot in Bolivia (C-206). Unfortunately the government is not going to let us Americans fly here anymore. I'm 36 with a family FWIW. Here's where I stand.
Inst/commercial/CFI
1000 hrs mostly C/X
With the exception of 65 night hours and 50 Multi, I meet the ATP-R mins because of graduating from an approved Bachelors in aviation program.
I don't have a multi engine rating yet.
I have 6 more months to fly here which will only be about 100 more hrs.
If I go back to the States and spend some time and money on IFR proficiency, night flight, and a multi rating, do I have a shot at regionals, or is a stepping stone job pretty much a requirement with these numbers?
Multi is my concern. I can't buy 50 hrs without debt. 25 maybe.
I wouldn't mind something like a Cape Air type job, but in the last four years we have moved 6 times in 3 countries and my wife and kids deserve a little stability.
What do you think? Possible? Other advise?

A lot of regionals will hire with 25 multi and credit you another 25 during sim training to make 50, a few guys in my class did that to meet the mins. Id say you definitely have a shot and id even tell you to start applying right after you get the multi rating. There was one guy in my class that applied without meeting the mins and got hired and just had to advise when he met the mins and got his class date.
Hope that helps.

I absolutely agree with this post.
The ability to move to a regional right now is great.
Absolutely apply where you want to go and if they don't touch you until you get your time, you're out nothing. If you get a conditional offer prior to all your requirements...bonus.
I just left the regionals and I can tell you they will work with someone with a good record and good attitude to get you onboard.
Good luck!
