Some random thoughts from the sidelines...
1. The majors don't hire type ratings, they hire individual pilots. If you're qualified, they'll add an extra sim so you can get your type rating.
2. Just because you have an Airbus type doesn't mean you'll get that airframe if and when you get hired. The week you go to training the drop may be all 737s, 717s etc. An Airbus type rating won't help you at SWA or Alaska.
3. Majors DO hire PIC time. The more the better. Why would you give up your TPIC at your regional for a huge pay cut and SIC time?
4. Sure regional life sucks (so I've heard!), but look at it like "paying your dues." Some of us paid our dues in the military, some at the regionals. Everybody pays dues somewhere.
If I were in your shoes, I'd keep the resumes flowing, stay in the left seat and keep building that PIC time. You'll get picked up eventually without having to take a step back to do it.
That's just my $.02 worth. Do what you think is best for YOU not what APC thinks is best for you.

Dude your an idiot, always easy to bash others... You must have no clout at home.
Never said I am making as much as a spirit captain, I said almost. Spirit captains making 126 per hour well I'm not far off that and I'm carrying a quarter if the people.
Spirit is my first choice as I live in a base, doesn't mean I have to go there.... When did I bash spirit?
Pay scales are low, that's general knowledge anyone who is not concerned about that is a fool

While you may not be "bashing" Spirit, your posts come across as negative. Why is Spirit your first choice? You keep making it a point to state that. Is it solely because you live in domicile? Are there other reasons? If it's your first choice, you shouldn't need others to convince you it is. It sounds like you don't know what you want, and that's fine, but call it like it is.
I have several friends who are happy there, but they were hired at a time when they could reasonably expect a quick upgrade and gain seniority in their respective domiciles. They've accomplished that and are happy.
It's a different ball game now.

By getting information from all my resources available and making my decision based on that, then yes.
I see where your going with it in regards to a flight deck scenario. HOWEVER, if you want to put it in that regard---do you let your passengers make the decisions for you? Because that is much closer in the "analogy arena" than what I assume you were implying.

You asked the OP, "No disrespect, but do you-as a Captain-make decisions like that?",
drawing an analogy between what happens in a forum to what happens in the cockpit. I was just using your analogy and your statement "make your decision based on what YOU want and FU$K the opinion of everyone else."
I generally don't like analogies, but mostly poking fun. Sorry if I misinterpreted you.

You're dreaming. An Airbus type is only slightly more valuable than a 175 type. Tons of guys here would leave if they got a call. It won't get your app to the top of the pile, but it does allow you to check one more box. That's about it.

I am seeing a lot if negative stuff about Spirit in this site..
I have an interview coming up looking at the pay scale and benefits why would I want to go there?
I am a regional captain who is making almost as much as some captains there. The difference is I carry 70 pax you all are carrying over 200, seems JetBlue or united might be a better option...
Anyone care to change my mind?

But I calculated earnings based on upgrade vs JB vs regional Capt. I put it on a spread sheet and figured out the break even point. I included what I knew about healthcare costs and since the retirements at all 3 were about the same I skipped that.
In the end NK gave me more money, assuming upgrades at NK and JB stayed the same.
It does get old hearing ****ed off pax. And I'm naturally inclined to give good service and NK makes me want to suppress this. Standing wheelchair pax, filthy planes, rude gate agents.. All things I would have done my best to correct in the past I simply ignore now. It's a coping mechanism here.
I'd go to DL or AA if they called. UA, not so sure.
Lastly I'll say the pilots here are great guys. I really like being at work when the door is closed.
If you've got 10+ years left you're better off leaving the regionals. If you're 50+ and making over $120k I would not come here now.

I came from one of the "good" regionals. Was in the top 25% of the company and a LCA. Got hired by JB and waited for 6 month for a class. In the mean time interviewed with NK, got hired and was on line before JB finally gave me a class so I stuck with NK. I sometimes have second thoughts. JB has a much nicer facility, professional appearance and lots of little perks. At NK you're stepping over FAs in the hallway on your way to a crap vending machine for lunch. There are no perks during training. Even the coffee isn't free.
