frontier or stay 135??
Hey there,
S0 I currently am a 135 Captain making 75k a year ( 4000TT, 2000 121 and 1,000 PIC 135), but its in a Pilatus as a check airman. I have an interview for Frontier coming up. I am a prior 121 regional guy that left because of horrible quality of life. Now I have 15-20 days off a month but am getting bored with the same routes. My goal is either a major or the GV, where all my contacts are. Unfortunately I cant find a place to help with the type and most require some.
My question to you guys is should I.....
1) stay where I am at and wait for the GV to come around and work for that?
or
2) take the job as a Airbus FO and go for the majors or GV down the road.
Lastly, is the pay cut worth the upgrade to the airbus? Thank you for the input
Thank you for the advice, Please let me know what you would do if you were me. Thank you!

I'd hold out for something better than Frontier, especially with the days off you're getting. Do you seriously want to sit reserve with 12 days off? And would you be commuting to Frontier? If so, than absolutely no.
Go to the interview, enjoy it, practice; but don't let them sell you on being there.
Get your apps in everywhere. Network, job fairs, etc. Look for other possible corporate gigs with new types. Right now, you have a good job, and it sounds like your flying a decent amount of hours. Don't take it for granted and don't think the grass is always greener.
Good luck.

Where are you located? If you're in a Frontier base I'd say go for it.
The reality is at this stage in your career more Pilatus time is doing absolutely zero for your resume.
Also, if you're looking for some better corporate networking and intel I'd suggest checking out *************.

First, you have an interview, not a job offer. Get that first before you have a decision to make. Since you are already stating you want to move on at use F9 as a stepping stone they will probably sense that but you never know. Being that this is a public forum and you just outed yourself which they do read here and keep track of, I would say your chance just went to very slim. Be willing to sign a 2 year training contract which will wipe out your first year of pay basically if you leave.
Do you live in base? If not plan to move or have a lot less time off while commuting.
Don't count on a 2 year upgrade. That is a lot of time for things to happen. Orders not happen, contract fights, management stalling, getting sold, getting IPOd, getting merged, economy, you never know.

Either way good luck with your decision. One thing about corporate/135 jobs they can be gone overnight.

Go interview.
Don't commute. If you care about quality of life, live in base. Denver, Chicago and Orlando should be easy to get as a new hire. Commuting will make you wish you hadn't left your old job.
Second year pay is about 60 grand and third year is about 70. Upgrade should put you about 110 grand, probably in 3 years if hired now. Subject to change

Get out
Just left the skanky 135 world after 9 years and 4 different types (II,XLS,X and 604). My only regret is that I didn't leave earlier. Taking a 75k cut for me was worth it for the qol. Frontier is a great place so far and everyone's been real down to earth. If your dream is to be tethered to your cell phone for the rest of your career waiting on the gentry to decide where they want to go then by all means go for the Ol' Grinder V.
If you want to be around to see family and enjoy other things besides aviation than it's a no brainer. Go fly the Bus' and get QUALITY time and then dedide on other oppurtinites down the road.
Listen to the other dudes about taking the interview seriously. They can sniff kooks a mile away.
Just think about where you (family) want to be in 10 years and start making strides in that direction. Don't get the golden handcuffs on you before it's too
late.
