Another vote for Sheppard Air. Around 3 days of serious studying and 30 minutes on the exam yielded a 94%.

Couldn't have said it any better. Knock the exam out of the park using SA, and learn what you really need to know during initial training.

Default am I missing something?

It was my understanding that if you don't already have the written completed, aren't you required to take the ATP-CTP course prior to taking the written. Or am I missing something?

Yes but the ATP CTP doesn't spool you up for the written.
