Aviation Career Options For 40 year old?
I'm a 40 year old looking to get back into aviation--my passion since age 4. While I'd like to fly fixed-wing or heli's, I'm open to working on the ground, be it in an office, or on the tarmac.
I'm starting from scratch, essentially, with 0 hours logged. I did obtain a PPL at age 17 but haven't logged hours since starting college, over 20 years ago.
What are some practical options?
Job outlook for fixed-wing gigs?
What about heli's? Medevac would be a dream, but I imagine these jobs are virtually impossible to get and highly sought after??
A quick bio about me that may be important to know:
I have a college degree and management experience. I also have a misdemeanor on my record from 14 years ago--alcohol to a minor. And in 2007 I was placed on a 5150 for 72 hours. That's a blemish I fear could really hinder me in pursuit of a piloting job. It looks terrible, frankly. For what it's worth it wasn't a "crazy" 5150 case, but rather a suicide prevention deal...or so the hospital thought. They thought I might "harm myself" simply because I was very depressed after a rough day. So they immediately made the decision to lock me down for 72 hours. Lame, but that's the system. They don't take chances. And now I know to keep my mouth wide shut if I'm ever down in the dumps again lol. But the fact remains, this is a mark on my record that I have to carry forever.
Thanks in advanced.
