Passion for Aviation

It is ok to have doubts. You don't have to be sure about what you want to do with your life. There are very few 18 year olds qualified to choose the correct path for their future self.
The trick at your age is to preserve your choices. Don't limit your options in the first two years of college. As most people would say, get a degree in anything but aviation. Also don't spend more than is necessary to get your certs and ratings. The University may not be the prudent financial choice.
Why do you want to be passionate about aviation? Is it that you want to be passionate about something and aviation seems as good as anything else?

You can probably be a good pilot even if it is not your passion. I believe that many pilots fell into aviation by chance or circumstance and acquired enough experience and skills to make a satisfying career out of it.
But it's probably not their passion.
The passionate pilots out there have found a way to fly no matter what the obstacles were. The were the kids who had a thousand takeoffs and landings with their plastic jet plane models from the kitchen table before they were six. They devoured airplane books and magazines. They usually have more than one aviation outlet: Sailplanes, RC planes, hang gliders, warbirds, home builts, etc. They will always look at a plane flying overhead.
If this isn't you, aviation will be an arduous career.
If it is you, you'll look forward to going to work despite all the crap you have to put up with.

I'm kind of the opposite. I spent the last 10 years as a firefighter/paramedic. It was a great gig that I fell into. But it was not my passion. I suffered an injury during the training academy for a new fire department and was dismissed from the academy. Now here I am 32 years old with an opportunity to achieve my goal of becoming a professional pilot. I have 14 hours logged from 10 years ago. Do I have a long, hard road ahead of me, yes. Does that deter me, no, because I am realizing my dream and living my passion now
