I did the Air Force Academy to the Air Force, then straight to Delta.

My son went to Middle Georgia College, earned all licenses through Multi - Engine instructor and CFII, and instructed at the college his last 2 years. King Air/Beech Jet charter pilot for 1 year, PSA FO at 24, hired by an Air Force Guard unit flying A-10s at 25. His education is essentially complete, he has his ATP, and he'll be ready for the majors in about 2 years, if they are still hiring.

Get your education now, including your ratings. The older you get, life makes those 2 things harder to do.

Do the heavy lifting now and never look back. Good luck.

Get a degree other than aviation in a major that you are interested in should you not be able to fly anymore. Pilots love money, so maybe a degree in Finance? Work at the local FBO while at college and fly as much as permissible working towards your CFI. Don't let anyone tell you that a degree is not required because it will be for your dream job.
