I Could Use Some Advice
Hi guys I live in near Atlanta, GA and am now trying to decide which regional I want to go to. I understand its all about how quickly you can upgrade and get out. I've narrowed it down to Compass and Mesa. Compass domicile = LAX and Mesa domicile = HOU. I've never commuted before. Whats that like? Is there a big difference between commuting to HOU or LAX from ATL other than the 2-2.5 hour longer flight? Both gigs would entail little to no reserve duty with a line right out of training or close to it.

There's 10 threads created a month here with the same question.
My quick .02:
Pick the one that is closest to where you want to live. No "better" contract will ever offset the addtl. burden of cost and time that involves commuting.
Also, people here will use the terms "scabs" and "bottomfeeders" to speak poorly of certain regionals they have an emotional beef about.
Ignore that and just go with the one that is closest to you and with a fleet of 76 seaters as opposed to 50-seaters. Those are the regionals that have a brighter future.

+-3hr drive or quick flight to clt isn't a bad idea if PSA happens to be in your bag of poop
Oh yeah, if Xjt is in mind then think hard about it. Probably won't get ATL base right away. Friend went there and assumed he would get Atl. He is Dallas based now.

I went to Pinnacle back in 2011 because they had an ATL base. A year later it closed and 9E was in bankruptcy. I was based in JFK from day one. Listen to those other guys. Commuting sucks and there's no other way to put it. It uses up your days off and creates stress that you can't really imagine unless you've done it. Some people are hard headed (like me) and will find out the hard way about commuting. It's much different if your airline owns the equipment (mainline) and not nearly as stressful. It'll be a lot easier on your life if you just listen to the experienced guys who answer your question.....LOL!

There are also pilots with the moral obligation not to fly for a bottom feeder. Before I got into this industry it didn't take some bitter pilot to tell me that airlines without cancellation pay, a conceasionary contract taken during times of profits, and horrible pay were not the places to be.

Commuting sucks no matter what airline you work for.
If you are married and you start commuting, you will be commuting your entire career (or until you get divorced).
I am firmly in the move to your base camp. The sacrifice of moving is a single event. The sacrifice of commuting comes every time you go to work.
