Corporate to Legacy/Major
#11
A nice electronic logbook like LogBook Pro or LogTen is excellent. They print out well and look nice in a binder format.
Just make sure to bring all of your original logbooks and make sure all your flight time is documented and adds up properly.

I wanted to bring this thread back alive to see who has gone from corporate to legacy recently.
I also wanted to get some advice. I'm a west coast corporate pilot with 5000TT, 2300tpic, 4 year degree and plenty of volunteer work. My goal is to get on with a legacy but not sure if staying in corporate is the best path. I've gone to 6 pilot fairs over the past few years, but have had no luck with the majors. Part of the problem is that I have pretty much no internal recs at the airlines, and I'm starting to think that major airlines are not a big fan corporate pilots. Do I stand a better chance if I jump over to a regional to get some 121 time, or should I stay in corporate where I'm getting plenty of tpic time?

The good news is with all the hiring, the west coast is now junior to just about any major with the possible exception of Jet Blue, so at least you have a good shot of joining and not having to commute for long.

Regardless of the "shortage", not everyone will end up with their dream job. While I certainly hope it works out for you, think about where you'd rather be stuck if it doesn't.

There is absolutely no doubt that carriers like DAL, UAL, and AMR do not hire corp guys in anywhere near the same numbers that SWA, JB, Spirit, Allegiant, etc do. That doesn't mean that they don't, just not on a similar scale. I've had one friend that is corporate interview at DAL and he unfortunately(or fortunately since it didn't seem his heart was in it and he landed an awesome corp gig at home two weeks later), did not get hired.
I have many, many corp friends at JB.
If you have your heart set on UAL, DAL, AMR, your best bet may be to go to JB, Spirit, etc and try to go from there.
Good luck.
