to the OP,
I am about to retire from the Army. That retirement gives me options. I hear all of the stories about how horrible the regional 121 world is and am glad that I have options. I'll probably never make it to a major or LCC flying 135 cargo and then corporate or EMS. But I don't have to chase the big money because I have a retirement. Having some measure of financial security and very little debt will open up a wider world of aviation in my opinion. Here's what I mean: Many Airline pilots have mountains of debt to pay off or wanna fly big jets. If you have mountains of debt to pay off then you either need to chase the big money or patiently pay it off slowly and be broke. If you want big money or you wanna fly big jets, it's likely you'll have to start at a regional and live the nightmare so many of the regional pilots talk about. If you don't have any such aspirations then stick it out where you are, and build your hours toward the job you really want. Maybe get your CFI, CFII, and MEI and instruct on the side if your ME time is too low. If you do have such aspirations I think you should stay anyway. 30k is a great cushion to have between you and the lousy 1st and 2nd year regional pay.
