It ought to be illegal to ask questions that are clearly removed from the job at hand. It's always vexing to older people like me as to why these companies do not have any legal boundaries to observe on what they can ask in these apps. There should be a limit to the last ten or twenty years at most, in any personal public record search. It smacks of a fishing expedition for an unknown reason in my view, and it defies common sense to suggest that someone who has long since modified an illegal driving behavior will all of a sudden revert to that same behavior after decades of successful behavior modification.

Thanks the lawyers and the media. Pilot employers (especially pilots who fly large numbers of the public) are probably more concerned with how your ancient history will play on CNN, and how the plaintiff's attorney will leverage it at the civil trail...neither lawyer nor talking head will likely mention exactly WHEN that stuff happened

Listing all your speeding tickets and showing some humility and honesty in the interview room goes along way, rather than not listing them and fumbling around explaining why you didn't in front of the panel.

When you print out your application, you should not see any blanks. If it is blank, go back in and put "N/A" There will be 2-3 blanks that you cannot put an N/A in. I don't remember which ones they were.

Okay I've got what may very well be a dumb question!

I'm at the driving history part of airline apps (so thought this thread would be a good place to ask the question)

There are two questions on there that I'm not sure how to answer.

It asks "Convicted?"
then asks "Disposition"

If I got a speeding ticket and paid it, then am I convicted? What about disposition? Not sure what they are asking for there?

Sorry, maybe if I was a serial traffic law offender I would know more about this?

I believe that if you paid it you are essentially pleading guilty so yes you were convicted. Disposition would be fine, jail time, etc...

I had a very colorful driving record in my fast car phase back in the late 80s early 90s. There is no record anywhere of the tickets I racked up so I am not sure what I will do on that part. Even the OPM agent that did my TS clearance last year couldn't get them. Is there a section to write in that you had a bunch of tickets but have no idea how many, where or when? I have ran the DMV records in my state and the states they were in and nothing is on any record. I am not trying to hide anything and if asked I would certainly not try to get around it. I was a speed junkie back then but that was 15 years before I even started flying.

Be careful how you ran your record. The private services that you pay might not show anything, but the court records would show everything. Have you got a court record? What about the official DMV record direct from the DMV office?

I even had a buddy of mine who is the Chief Of Police a few towns over run my record. Nothing from the old days shows.

But have you checked the court records and/or official DMV?
I am asking because I had very old tickets that didn't show anywhere else, but they used to show on the official court records.
