Options for entry into 121
Hello all. With my first thread here I've come to ask for some advice.
Currenty, I am a 135 captain with over 3000 hours trying to make it into the 121 world. +1000 Turbine PIC, I love to fly and have been flying professionally for over 5 years. My long term goal has always been to make it to 121.
However, I come with with baggage. I have a total of three busted rides, 2 ppl, and one CFI initial, that last one being about 4 years ago if that matters. Was arrested once, charges dropped. And just recently got an LOI (long story regarding bad information with mx) which is still being looked into.
On top of all that I only have 50 multi. We fly Caravans.
I had a recent interview with a regional 121 carrier and during the interview, which I thought I was doing ok though, I was suddenly dismissed without an idea of what went wrong.
At this point I am honestly wondering if I actually can get in the door of any 121 op.
But if I could, where could I go? What is my real competitivness at this point?

I am certainly no expert.....they will be along shortly I am sure. As cruel as it sounds you probably do have a very difficult battle in front of you. It would be foolish for me to sit here and say that no 121 carrier will ever hire you but right now that is probably the case. That may change in a year or two or three IF the regional ranks get decimated by hiring to the mainline carriers AND it becomes very difficult for them to find pilots due to the 1500 hours rule.
You do come with baggage of the three busts, the LOI I am guessing from the FAA and arrest..even though dismissed. PERSONALLY and I know there are those that will disagree but I place more issue on the three busts than the other two issues. Those won't, can't, go away from your FAA record. The POI probably needs to come to its conclusion then you will need to apply to each and every 121 operator out there. IF and when you get a position there will be no room for error. Prove yourself over a few years and begin trying to move on. No one can predict exactly your fate.... you have to decide if its climbing an uphill battle. Good luck.
