Failed ATP check ride- now out of job
Hi all. I am (was) a new pilot with an un-named regional airline and I failed my ATP check ride. This was my first failed check ride ever but because I was still new and on probation, I was not able to re-take the check ride again and my company decided to let me go since I was on probation. Another major factor that contributed to their decision was that I unsat a phase check during my initial check ride 8 months ago and then unsat a phase check just prior to taking this most recent ATP check ride.
Needless to say, I'm very dissapointed with my performance in the sim and I'm pretty devistated that Im now out of a job. Other than my two unsats and one failed check ride, I feel I did pretty well on the line. All of my probie evals were excellent and I took no sick time during the 11 months I was employed with this airline. I also had a great rapport with my peers and supervisors.
So, with that said, I'm wondering if anyone knows or has any experience with my situation and would like to know if I will ever have a chance with another airline with a history of one failed check ride and not passing probation from a prior airline.

Come to terms with what happened and be able to explain it on an interview. Also explain what you learned.
Like I said, you'll be fine.

Can't say I've ever been in this situation myself, but a friend of mine had a failed commercial check ride(recheck went good) then became a CFI and passed all MEI II fine. He eventually went to Mesa and passed his dash 8 training all fine. Some time later, he failed jet transition to the RJ and was fired... I'm not sure if he was on probation. Also not sure how his attitude was in the training... (sorry for lack of details)
He left aviation for about 5 years, but is now a CFI full time.. I guess he "found himself" again. Not sure if he has tried to go 121 again or if he is going to stay away.
Best of luck, sir...

A busted ride in the part 91 world is nothing to worry about at all, especially after a few years in 121. A busted 121 ride is not the end of the world either, just take ownership and work on what you could have done better.

I hate to say it, but looks like you've suffered from the Colgan 3407 law. One dishonesty screws all pilots. I've heard that 3 failures (in any checking event) is the most airlines and HR will tolerate ever since the BUF crash.
Not to mention, the liability. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you are an excellent pilot and probably just had sim-isms. However, god forbid if there's an accident, the media is going to have a field day with three failures, 2 phase failures and 1 ATP failure all in 8 months, and the media will tear your name apart while loved ones suffer.
Goof luck, try and get another flying job, but be HONEST about all failures and admit to them and what you learned.

You're going to have to go through a jet transition course and get your ATP. Your training records will show all unsats and failures and that's tough to wash away when recruiters review your resume. Proving that you can pass it a second time is very valuable when explaining yourself in an interview. I've had a friend in your position and I use to do interviews and roadshows.

I'm confused as to how the unsats on the phase checks can be grouped in the same category with the actual ATP check ride failure. Isn't the purpose of the phase checks to ensure your ready for the check ride and if not the problem areas are worked on?
