Sounds like you're in a decent situation... mind saying which regional?

SkyWest. No place is perfect, but having previously flown charter and corporate, I've been pretty happy here. I'm a line holder living in base, which makes a big difference of course. I've been here about 1.5 years.

Another unintended consequence of the ATP rule...

With as little training as some regionals are giving before the ATP ride, you can't be the only one in this situation. I can definitely believe if you are from one of the bankrupt airlines, that they are looking for ways to cut probies and you were one of the unlucky ones.

As someone else suggested, see if you can finish your ATP ride. I know that's easy for someone to say who hasn't just lost their job when renting a PA-44 is $250 an hour. But in the coming months, I think the regionals are going to be hurting for people who can legally fly come Aug 3 of next year, and if you have your ATP in hand, and have learned something from the experience, I would hope some recruiters would see that you just really got screwed (for lack of a better word) and give you a shot.

Why would you need much more training? In most cases the ATP ride contains the exact same maneuvers that the FO is required to perform anyway. If you are one of the carriers that has CA specific maneuvers you may be adding as little as a SE missed approach and a few other small items.

At least one bottom-tier regional comes to mind that trains to ATP standards from day one, and requires new FOs coming through the door be able to meet the ATP standards on the spot, or else go home, and yes they send a lot of guys home. One may have 250 hours in theory and must still meet ATP standards there. The hiring mins are gradually rising due to the coming ATP rule, but I think the reasoning was the firm pays so little money that no one will stick around more than 2-3 years max, and with that much turnover everyone needs to be ready to upgrade to CA.

Excuse the thread drift but to clarify, are you making more as a regional F/O than you did as an engineer or do you mean the overall QOL (pay, time-off, etc.) is better at SKW?

Pay, no. QOL, yes. Pay is still pretty good though, on average I take home $2000 every two weeks. Not bad if you don't have debt. I certainly don't want to be stuck with that for any longer than necessary though.

With a SKW pay rate in year 2 of $38/ hour, I call shenanigans on $2,000 every two weeks, take home. You'd have to crediting 1,600 hours a year to do that net.

I'm including per diem in that, but that's about what I've been averaging for take home pay. My last paycheck I took home almost $2,300. That doesn't include any holiday pay or anything either. As far as your shenanigans, block does not equal credit. I always credit more than block, and credit is what my pay is based on.

I know that, which is why I used crediting in my post. Adding in per diem explains a lot.
