Question Signatures on letters of recommendation?

All right...now that it seems every airline wants everything uploaded online, and we don't use snail mail unless we have to...does anyone know if it is necessary to have an actual signature on a letter of recommendation uploaded with a job app? Obviously if you get the call for the interview you will bring a signed copy with. However, if using an emailed letter with no signature on it gets an app in two weeks sooner than waiting for a paper version that you have to scan and then upload(hopefully in some format they support aargh!), what say you? Would it make a difference to a recruiter?
TIA!
