5 interviewees:
(1) 15 minute presentation about ASA/ExpressJet vision and goals
(2) Aviation Knowledge exam (30 multiple choice + 1 essay); 1 hr
(3) Cognitive/Tabular Test (Use X/Y grid to find answers); 9 mins
(4) Interviews (I had a combined Pilot-Technical/HR interview); 15 mins;
[Pilot]
- Asked to brief an approach from a Jepp, and then a couple questions from the approach plate (highest obs/terrain, LOC mins), and a Jepp Hi-Chart (airway distance, MEA).
- Asked to brief/discuss a system from my current aircraft.
- Asked questions about the electrical system of the current aircraft.
[HR]
- Besides qualifications, why should ASA choose me?
- What's important to you as an FO?
- What are your aspirations in 1yr? 5yrs?
- Tell me about a bad flight experience.
-- About the best flight experience.
- What are you looking for in an airline company?
(5) Fingerprinting and Wizz Quiz
(6) Sim eval conducted the next day in Delta's 737 sim. However, my interviewer convinced the Chief of Pilot Hiring that since I had just type rated in the 737 less than 3 weeks ago, I didn't have to go the the sim!
The atmosphere in the ASA building felt really good. None of the pilots, FAs or support personnel we saw had a bad attitude. That being said, they were not hiring for ASA...only ExpressJet. What's the diff? Different company (until merger), different jets, different bases/domiciles, different benefits.

You can't study for the cognitive test. It is a big grid that has a y-axis and x-axis. You are given a set of 50 coordinates, you have to find the number at said coordinate. It is multiple choice and its going to be like 5 possible answers. it is very simple just nerve racking. You get 9 min to finish 50 questions you have to answer at least ___ amount and get ____ amount of those correct. Key things are to just keep moving don't ever look up at the clock or your watch and don't second guess yourself. You go over 4 practice problems before you start.

Let me make a little more sense out of this. Are the 50 coordinates given to you on a sheet of paper before you even start? Are the coordinates given to you like X,Y then you go to the graph and you find that coordinate and there is only 1 number to pick?

There are way more than 50 coordinates. There are 50 questions. The X/Y axis goes from either -16 to 16 or -17 to 17 (can't remember which) for both X and Y. There are no grid lines, just a number where each coordinate would be. For example, the question gives you the following coordinate: (4, -13). You would go to where that coordinate is, see whatever number is there, and hope it's one of the MC options. It isn't hard, don't worry about it.
