rickt86,
Pretty much all airline HR interviews are looking to hire a clone. They know the profile, so I always dressed like one. Always worked to stay in between the lines. Goodluck!

Cool

Save your purple shirts for when you're ready to interview at FDX.

It worked for me.

I was hired with Eagle wearing a black suit, white shirt and gold tie. A friend was hired in an olive shade type of suit. What ever you put together make it look good and most importantly, FIT! I never wore the black, white, red tie combo because I felt like a clown wearing it and feel it's out dated in today's world (just my opinion), if you feel comfortable, you will present more confidence. But do set certain restrictions..I'd opt out of a purple shirt..

Fedora with an Ostrich feather that matches your power neck tie.
Leather jacket, spit shined black cowboy boots. Aviator watch , and sun glasses.

I just bought a white shirt, it will go with the black suit, and I might go with a tie that isnt red, it depends what looks best, I agree that the corporate world is changing, I do not see a little bit of change is bad, as long as its fitting.

How many airline interviews has your GF been to?

+1 for the white shirt

Try this one with your black suit, they'll love it!

Seriously, I wish you good luck in your interview.

I got black suit, white shirt, and am going to look at my solid ties, I will try and go red, but if something else looks more professional I might go with gold

Out of curiosity, is a red tie mandatory? I was under the impression that was only really for Delta. I know you do not want crazy, distracting ties, but I have several professional looking ties with simple, repeating patterns that go well with a white shirt and dark suit. Should I just go out and get a plain red tie for airline interviews?

The red tie would be the least important part of the "accepted standard". If you don't do red, make sure it's conservative and tasteful.
