Default True home based jobs

Wanted to poll the braintrust out there and see if there are any truest home based jobs. I’m currently at a ULCC commuting to work. Wife works in west Texas making more than I do and a move is out of the question for at least the next 5+ years (neither of us want to live in an airline base anyways). I’ve looked into the frac’s (NetJets etc.) and home based ACMI’s but neither are true home based jobs. Both usually start with a paid airline ticket to wherever the airplane is at and then a paid airline ticket home after 7-14+ days at work. Do I need to be looking for those unicorn part 91 jobs or is there more out there that I’m missing?

What you described with the fractionals and ACMI's is the standard definition of home based. I guess what you are talking about would be someone willing to pay you to fly their airplane that is headquartered at an airport within driving distance of where you live. That would probably be a pretty short list depending on exactly where you live. You would probably be looking for a company that operates a corporate jet or a cargo company that starts and ends in the same place everyday on a regular run. If you could tell us which airports you are able to drive to you might get better suggestions.

ATI is true home-based, as is Omni - same parent company.

A few big 135's are, but if you don't want the limo driver sort of gig, Contour is using home-based E135 crew for their scheduled runs. Crew are 8-on, 6-off under 135.267, so you're actually traveling and flying as crew on days 1 and 8, no day off during the 8.

Almost all the fire suppression work is now home-based, 12 or 14 on/off.

Medway Air Ambulance is looking for home-based Lear skippers.

Other air ambulance outfits are using "floaters", as is Mountain Air Cargo...

If what you are actually asking is "are there any jobs in West Texas?":

Ameriflight is looking for an ELP Metro Captain for charters - includes mileage pay. Also a SJT Captain. PM me if you're interested.

Everts and Ameristar are also home-based, DC-9 cargo and runs are typically West Texas heavy.

Many air ambulances there as well. Great gig if you'd like to be off half the time and not trying to build hours.

Thanks for the suggestions guys/girls I should have been a little more specific. I’ll be moving to MAF in 6 months where I’ll likely have to stay for the next 5+ years. I found a job listing for empire airlines ATR direct entry captain job which I qualify for but don’t know anything about. From y’all’s posts it sounds like the empire job or doing some part 91 flying for joe rich guy might be my only 2 options. ACMI seems like a pretty good gig but I can’t come to grips with the 16 on 14 off schedules. I really liked the 7-7 at NetJets but it just seems like I’d be swapping my airline commute for a paid commute to an aircraft that could be in BOS.

I flew some rich guy with oil money that lived in Midland. He owned a CJ4 that he had a dedicated crew for. He took his plane and rented two of ours (part 135) to take 20 of his friends to a Texas A&M game. They had party buses waiting on the ramp. Suite passes around their necks. We sat around till the game was over and then took them back to Midland. What a life! His crew said it was a pretty good gig. Mostly doing stuff like that so the owner could maximize his time at home.

Yep this is it right here, I’m guessing there’s a whole lot of networking that goes into getting a job like that? What do y’all do? Go hangout at the airport and talk to people? Can’t find those jobs on the internet.

What's wrong with a week on/off with paid, positive space "commute"?
The corporate and rich guy stuff is fun until you get jammed up like a limo driver.
Empire should be a good fit, ought to be home every night for the most part unless it's a TDY floater slot.

You can either look for a unicorn 91 where you want to live, enjoy one of the “true home-based” jobs and let them fly you to/from the jet, or you can move to a domicile base (which may change during your career).

Those are your choices.

Go to the FBO at MAF, buy a few burritos (they are delicious) and say loudly "I live local and I'd like to fly a King Air", you'll likely have a KA350 job offer within 30 seconds. They are desperate for local guys who don't bail out the second they'll find a job anywhere but MAF.

After a while, you'll learn to fly to Hobby with your eyes closed.
