Clearing the legal fallout skillfully outweighs billing concerns IMHO. No contest pleas for simple possession and paraphernalia misdemeanors don't typically indicate a first dance stumble either. Prompting deeper questions into when it started and why the experimental turned routine. Detailed examination & monitoring of the recovery plan going forward. Going to be a long climb. BTW, I began smoking cigarettes at 14. Dope shortly thereafter. Liked drinking a whole lot more. No random testing back then. No random testing when I taxied clear across a major airport at dawn, oblivious no one had bothered to contact a ground controller either. Didn't like the testing rule change when it came down. I do now. Airline work; endless procedure, regulation, compliance. Hide any dependence on this job, get good at living in denial. You've become dangerous. Co-workers are trained to identify and report on-duty substance abuse suspicions to supervisors & enforcement personnel without hesitation. They WILL do as trained. Meanwhile, we can practice walking perp.

Watching local news this week, saw where an older woman blew a stop sign and a school bus flipped over. No one critically hurt. With media jackals close-up recording a stream of tears mixing into snot pouring from her nose, she sobbed on about having some wine coolers into the night before, nothing new. No way it caused that she said, I'm devastated. Too late. The big party week is here friends. Look out for each other and have yourself a Merry Christmas.

If aviation is the only thing you have ever dreamed of, sure go for it and do everything in your power to turn this around, otherwise I would pursue something else. It stinks because many have done what you have done, but they didnt get caught.
Thank you for the response!! I will finish my general classes here this spring semester, then I have 4 years to get my hours and the other half of my degree. I'm working hard at Vivint right now as well. On the other hand, Go Chiefs!!!

Think about earning money for the best lawyer you can get and beat this charge. Do that before you need a medical and doing any more flight training. Once you report it to the FAA the infraction is a part of your permanent record. Get the charge thrown out and i don't think you have to report it to the FAA. Then start flying again.

You may be required to report it now anyway, if so I would report it. Not reporting it can get you in far more trouble than reporting it and being honest, then taking the punishment.

Just to clarify, since the charge did NOT involve drugs/alcohol WHILE operating a motor vehicle, he only needs to report a conviction of said charges to the FAA or any employer, not an arrest.

Anyone can be arrested for anything for any reason......

If the employer asks "have you ever been arrested for" and he has been arrested, then he needs to answer in the affirmative.
