Keep in mind too that unlike a 9-5, your time off is TIME OFF. No phone, no tether to the office, nobody cares where you are or what you do as long as you show up fit for duty when you need to return.

That is a HUGE departure from most office jobs where you are at home but work always lingers around, even on weekends or vacation.

I have been sitting at home, growing my beard, and my wife has asked me “don’t you go back to work today?” Sad thing is she was right, I just hadn’t thought about work in so long I forgot.

True, but the flip side is that when you're on the road you miss the daily opportunity to take care of things around the house, spend time with kids, etc. For that reason 15 days off/month isn't as sweet a deal as you might think, since you're playing some catch-up ball. But 18 days off is pretty good.

I learned long ago to check my schedule religiously every morning when I'm off.
