Default Pilot Career Path Crisis

I was just wondering if I could get good advice on becoming a pilot. I have always had a love for aviation and I know that it comes with serious debt. However, I am committed to following through. I’m currently in an associates program for aviation and plan to transfer to a good university soon after. However, I’ve read numerous of articles saying not to go to an expensive university since the degree doesn’t matter, other articles say to do so since it can lessen hours that’ll need to be completed, and then theirs the imitate option such as the Air Force. It should also be known that I’m not blessed with the greatest finances. I don’t have my parents paying my bills and I am a hardworking, self-earning, student. I’ve come across many pilot’s pages that seem to have their parents paying their expenses. I would like advice from someone who knows what a struggle is, and not a struggle that comes with becoming a pilot and the financial burden but a struggle that comes before that. A struggle to come from parents how do not have fortunate jobs but live a decent life.
Thank you for any future advice!

If the Military is not your path, then I recommend you get a job as a Lineservice person at an airport with a flight school (plus corporate traffic), and work something out from there. I did that in south Florida in the early 80's and was flying right seat in a Learjet by the end of high school. All without burdening my family's financial situation. Don't take no for an answer, bust your butt on the ramp, good opportunities will come to you.

Do the mil pilot thing. It's difficult academically and financially if you choose a different option. I'm a full-time cop, dad and husband, trying to attend school online as I fly. It's burning the candle at both ends. While I think my progress has been good, I do know if I had the ability to put forth full fledged effort, vs being a part-time student, I would progress at a much faster rate. Good luck with your decision...from someone in the same boat as you, just older..hah
