Time is of the essence, any advice would be helpful in terms of getting currency, being competitive in the hiring process, and who is the best airlines are that would hire me. I am on the verge of committing to ATP to go through a 3 days of sims for $2500 in DFW. Is this a good idea? (Class 1 successful). Thanks
11/4... Great news for this 'geezer'... Put in an application to Skywest and they called within 24hrs... Those out there, keep the dream and faith. Any gouges or help with SKYW would be appreciated.

Definitely worth it. You can cancel after you’re hired.

Interview will be easy, they just want to see that you put in an effort to prepare (attitude check) so the gouge should suffice and verify that you have no obvious personality defects. If you tell them you're staying at SKW until you retire, they might even believe you at your age.

Learn everything you can before you start class (you should get study materials). At your age you need to live healthy (brain food, exercise, good sleep, minimal booze) and keep in mind that the tricks that worked for you 30 years won't work as well today. If you find you can't remember things as well as you expected, don't stress... you can still learn it all, just put in more effort than you might have back when David Lee Roth was fronting Van Halen.

As soon as you get through training, start applying to legacies. At your age probably no point in leaving SKW for a third-tier major, but big four would definitely be worth it. If you have no significant skeletons you might well get called after 2-3 years at SKW (assuming you fly and don't sit a lot of reserve).

Thank you for your advice... Good words. My goal is to go overseas and fly... No age limit and personal reasons.
