Should I wait?
Hello,
I'm 19 and I love aviation. I live in Georgia and I am currently taking flight lessons at a local airport to get my private license. I have looked into several flight schools, especially ATP. My question is, should I go to ATP and go through their program? Or should I continue to take flight lessons at my local airport at a much slower rate? I know this is a debatable topic, but there are so many mixed reviews that it makes it difficult to decide the best option.
Thanks

19 years old? Are you in college or have plans to attend college. Personally I would do all I could to stay out of debt and continue paying as you go. Get a degree, most if not all airlines will not hire you unless you have your degree. I'm not trying to tick off any of the ATPers on this forum, but I was always told ATP is not the best option. You are quickly rushed through ratings and may not always have learned all you needed to make you a safe pilot. Continue the route you are going, earn your degree, become a safe and competent pilot, build your hours while in school. Stay as much debt free as you can, that way when you take one of those nice hefty signing bonuses from an airline, you can use it towards things other than paying back students loans. Good Luck!

I'm currently in college, yes, forgot to mention it. I appreciate the advice. I have seen some people go to ATP first, then get their degree, which seemed a bit overwhelming to do everything all at once! Thanks once again.

I live in Georgia and started ATP November of last year. I got all my ratings and finished may 10th. I'm towing banners now, but i plan on getting my degree while building my hours. I personally think the best thing you can do is get your certs ASAP and then focus on your degree.
