Stay at a Regional for 121PIC, or LCC SIC?

To the Op, command time does still matter! Guess it just depends on what your end goals are. I highly doubt having that Airbus type is going to increase your odds with a legacy! In my case the major I'm shooting for still requires 1000 TPIC.

The assumption is that that job train keeps on chugging.
Ask the guys who went to the majors in 2001 with no PIC time how that worked out. If there's another mass furlough (with age 67 or 70 adding fuel to the fire) the pilot shortage goes from shortage to surplus. That's when the competitive hiring requirements soar.
For a lot of us, that meant spending the lost decade trying to scrounge for PIC time so that we could finally reapply for jobs on par with what we had pre 9/11. It's a terrible feeling realizing you're no longer qualified to do the job you were previously doing.

If you are about to upgrade, and don't have any 121 PIC time, I would stay.
Nowadays the wait for upgrade at many airlines is relatively short. It used to be a decade or more at many places to reach that point.
From a recruiter's standpoint and a point grading system I think ME Turbine left seat anything (121/135/91) ranks higher than right seat heavy.
First year pay at places like Frontier, Spirit? Ouch. Not to mention apparently Spirit as an example has a 4 simulator session training program. Seems a bit abbreviated. Wonder what the pass rate is for new hires?

Doesn't some of the low cost places have a shorter upgrade time than the regionals? If I was stuck w a upgrade farther out than 3 years I would def try and get on w a LCC. But, as someone else posted many great positions within a regional other than slinging gear. I've been lucky enough to do Saftey, Recruiting, and training Dept on two different types. Unfortunately, I'm not delta material. (Learned that on a golf course when I was furloughed from my regional and it s a great story) Life is good and I'm actually dreading my flow to AA QOL is gonna take a major hit for min 3 years. Good luck w your decision!!

If you see yourself staying at the LCC, then its a no brainer go to the LCC. If all you are looking at the LCC as is a stepping stone, might as well just stay where you are at and get the PIC. I just don't see the airlines caring either way what decision you make if that is what you are weighing.
You say "which is a better move". But you don't really define what that means.

Every major and legacy airline is hiring future captains, not FO's. Having some command time is going to give you a leg up over another applicant with zero PIC. And as a captain, you can take a shot at becoming an LCA or some other role within Flight Standards.

Not a "what should I do" thread. Perfectly capable of making my own decisions, simply looking for some input from people who may have already crossed this bridge, or are in a similar position. Given the responses, clearly I'm not the only one who's put some thought or has an opinion about this particular scenario. I mean, this is a forum isn't it? asking questions and sharing opinions is kind of the point, isn't it?
Next time ill be sure PM you to to ask what I should get in my coffee, since starting a thread to spark discussion about a major career decision on a website that exists for literally that purpose somehow makes me unable to make my way through daily life.
