Wondering if this thread should be slid over to the regional side. Granted they wont be hauling pax for other carriers but the pay, benefits, schedules and so on are regional

Out of scope for any regional. Well, except of course for Horizon, because Alaska HAS NO scope restrictions...

I think what you meant was it’s not a FFD (Fee For Departure) carrier.

Of course it's a fee for departure carrier... The fee is the ticket the customer will buy from breeze.com! Anyway, my point is it's obviously not a regional. Breeze has a mainline business model mainline planes mainline schedules mainline management etc etc. Pay will be low due start up costs and renegotiated later or they will have an overnight staffing problem when the low seniority numbers are taken and the industry turns back around.

What’s the definition of a regional carrier again?

One defined by some 1980’s monetary yardstick?

Is the Americas now considered a region?

There are regional sized aircraft with longer range than an A300. Which one is the regional aircraft?

Most regionals carry passengers who bought a ticket through another carrier. Many passengers on mainline carriers buy tickets through other carriers on codeshares. Similar concept why the different name?

Could it be that a regional airline has simply become an expression for a bottom tier scheduled 121 operator for whom passengers, employees, and management alike accept lower standards? Why? Because “regional”

Why wouldn’t we reject this term altogether?

not quite the same thing. Don’t regionals get paid a set rate per flight regardless of whether there’s 5 pax or 50 pax? Hence the Fee for departure model. Codeshares are basically two companies sharing in some way the revenue from a passengers purchase of a singular ticket in order into increase efficiency in each other’s business. United isn’t paying Alaska to fly an entire flight with a codeshare, but they are paying PSA to.

Not to detail too much, but codeshares don’t really share revenue. If it is a revenue sharing operation, it is a joint venture. More accurately, it allows pax to book via their carrier of choice and have more frequency/destination options while remaining with their carrier of choice, and on the same itinerary, and often allows reciprocal frequent flyer earning and burning privileges.
