Logging IRO time as a First Officer?

Logging IRO time as a First Officer?
I found a few threads discussing logging PIC time as a Captain occupying an IRO position, but I'm having a hard time finding any information on an FO logging SIC time while occupying an IRO position.
I am new to the MD-11 and 121 flying, but in the miltary, time spent out of the left or right seat was logged as "Other" time which we leave out entirely when it comes to calculating our hours for airline applications. I'm wondering how I should be logging my time as a First Officer when out of the left or right seat? The Captains I have flown with have told me to log it all as SIC time towards my Total Time regardless of my seat position because I am a required crew member. When asked about logging more than 8hrs in a day they say to put 3 man crew in the remarks which makes logging more than 8hrs in a day legal. I just want to make sure if asked at an interview why I logged more than 8hrs on a certain day in my logbook I can backup my logbook entry.
Let me give my last trip as an example. We were a 3 man crew on a 2 day trip. On the release a Check Airman was listed as the Captain, a line Captain was listed as the IRO, and I was listed as the FO.
Day 1 (3 Legs):
Leg 1 - 3.1 hrs - I occupied the right seat the whole time.
Leg 2 - 5.3 hrs - I occupied the right seat the whole time.
Leg 3 - 1.7 hrs - I occupied the IRO seat the whole time.
Day 2 (1 Leg):
Leg 1 - 8.5 hrs - I occupied the right seat the whole time.
As of now I have all 4 of these flights logged as SIC Time and counted towards my Total Time with 3 man crew in the remarks. Does that sound legal in the eyes of the FAA and a hiring board?
Thanks in advance!
